AHMEDABAD, Aug 12: Third Additional Assistant Sessions Judge V M Chaudhary has quashed the earlier order which stated that the investigation into the Bhagyodaya Restaurant fire case would be conducted by the city Crime Branch. The court has also directed the Police Commissioner to hand over the investigation to an officer above the rank of deputy superintendent of police.Harshaben Bhatt, wife of Bhaskar Bhatt who sustained burn injuries when the Bhagyodaya Restaurant in Gurukul was burnt, had filed a revision application in the Ahmedabad District Rural Court requesting that the investigation into the matter be conducted by the Ahmedabad District Superintendent of Police (Rural).
Following this, the court directed DSP (Rural) to conduct the investigation. But the DSP submitted in court that the Ahmedabad city crime branch was already probing the matter, and therefore, it would not be proper if two agencies conducted the same investigation.
Subsequently, the court had handed over the investigation to the city crime branch.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch Subhash Trivedi has asked the public to cooperate with the police. He said that any person who has any relevant information could contact Crime Branch Police Inspector P N Barot at Gaekwad Haveli or call 5398549 or 2111639 ext 282.
