AHMEDABAD, Aug 12: Admissions to various Engineering and Medicine courses for the academic year 1999-2000 began on Thursday with interviews of students who passed from the Central Board of Secondary Education. Admissions will continue till September 30, according to officials of the Centralised Degree Admission Committee (CDAC).Admissions for students passing HSC examinations from the Gujarat Secondary Education Board will begin on August 16. Over 120 teachers and non-teaching staff will be working for one and a half months for admissions to the engineering and medical colleges in the State. The admission committee has also started displaying admission status on the Internet. Individual call letters for admissions to Engineering, Pharmacy, Medical, Dental and Physiotherapy including NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad, Pramukhswami Medical College, Karamsad and for Physiotherapy courses at Anand and Ahmedabad have been issued by CDAC.
Accordingly, students are first counselled and then interviewed by members of CDAC to be then admitted on basis of merit and preference. While interviews for CBSE students will continue till the afternoon of Saturday, the procedure for GSEB students will begin on August 16 with interviews for underage applicants of 1998 for Medical, Physiotherapy and Dental courses.
Officer in-charge of admissions at the L D Engineering College R J Joshi said that while admissions would end on September 30, sessions in most degree colleges would begin by mid-September.
