Crime Watch -- Ahmedabad

Four held
The local Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested four persons from Sarangpur bridge for allegedly cheating Mahendrasingh Sultansingh Yadav. Police Inspector K C Chudasma said all the four arrested are residents of Benaras. He said the four met Mahendrasingh, a LIC agent and told him they had soiled notes of Rs 1.40 lakh. According to a deal worked out between them, it was decided that Mahendra would pay Rs 30,000 for soiled notes of Rs 1.40 lakh. Suspecting foul play, Mahendra informed Crime Branch officials. When the four met Mahendra at a pre-decided spot, they took Rs 30,000 from him and handed over a bag filled with paper. PI Chudasma is conducting further investigation.

Two arrested
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested two East Zone clerks of AMC for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 200. Those arrested are Bimal Ratilal Pandya and Purshottam Jemabhai Prajapati. According to a complaint filed by Avtarbhai Mulukbhai Bagga, a resident of Maninagar, the two called him to their office and told him he had to pay Rs 900 as tax, but it could be brought down by 50 per cent if he paid them Rs 200.

Road mishap
One person was killed and two others were injured in a road accident on Wednesday. A 22-year-old man, Rajesh Pillai, died when a truck smashed into the motorcycle he was driving. The two other motorcycle drivers, Kaushik Joshi and Ketan Solanki, suffered minor injuries.

Suicide case
Kanan Govind Nador (42,) a resident of Bapunagar, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday by consuming poison. Police said Kanan had given his flat to his brother Venkat and had asked for Rs 1 lakh. But Venkat refused to give the entire amount immediately. This led Kanan to take the extreme step.
