National B Chess from Aug 18

The national B Chess Championship, being organised by the Maharashtra Chess Association, will be held from August 18-31 at Andheri Sports Complex. Local players Rohan Juneja and Deepali Anvekar have been given pride of place in under-19 boys and girls sections of the All-India Otters Club Open Junior Squash Championship to be held here from August 14-19.

West Zone Athletics trialsnTHE BOMBAY City District Amateur Athletic Association will be conducting trials for West Zone State Selection Junior Athletic Championships at the Priyadarshini Park on August 14 at 8.00 am. Athletes are expected to carry their original bonafide birth certificates. The State selection trial is at Pune on August 17 and 18 while the West Zone Junior athletic championships is at Gandhi Nagar from August 22 to 24.

State Ranking table tennis

Bombay YMCA will be staging the Maharashtra State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at Sachivalaya Gymkhana from August 28. Entry forms for the five-day event can be obtained from all branches of the YMCA and should be submitted at Central YMCA, 12, NathalalParekh Marg, Colaba from August 10. Further details can be had from YMCA Central Branch (Tel: 2020079, 2826384). Entries close at 1800 hrs on August 24, states a Bombay YMCA release.

BFY family doubles

Tour of England

A sports & Leisure Promotion Trust cricket team left for a 21-day tour of England on Aug 8, to play 18 matches in and around Bristol.
