PANCHKULA, AUG 16: It was time for celebration for the students of Shemrock International School in Industrial Area as the students presented a colourful cultural programme here yesterday. The programme was organised on the occasion of the 53rd Independence Day.The celebration started with the hoisting of the tricolour followed by a cultural programme. The students had also prepared posters and cards depicting the Kargil crisis and tributes were paid to the Kargil martyrs. Many competitions were also organised on the occasion which included a paper making competition to create awareness regarding the environment. Saplings were also planted in the school premises.
ICFA celebrations
The Indo-China Friendship Association (ICFA) celebrated Independence Day on Monday at the Punjab University.
Dr G.P. Sharma, Professor Emeritus, PU, was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr R.L. Singhal, currently Associate Editor of the India-China Mirror was the main speaker. He stated that India and China had regained independence within a span of two years of each other and the ``two Asian giants have many things in common.'' Other speakers included Prof Bhattacharya, P.C. Suri, Prof Mehta and Vidyasagar.
