Parneet Kaur promises `A' status for Patiala city

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, Aug 16: Congress candidate for the Patiala Lok Sabha seat Parneet Kaur today blasted the policies of the ruling SAD-BJP combine, saying more than 16 lakh youth in the state were unemployed despite the fact that the state government when voted to power had promised to provide employment to all the youth.

Addressing a gathering organised by the Berozgaar Naujawan Union at Chiranjeev Ashram here, she said the government could not address the basic issues of the people and had no right to rule.

Parneet Kaur said the state government should give permanent employment to teachers, nurses, patwaris and other such employees employed on an ad hoc basis but their services were terminated without giving any valid reason.

She said the Badal government had categorised Patiala as a "B" grade city, which meant that thousands of employees were being given house rent allowance at the rate of only 7.5 per cent, which she added was due to the fact that "Badal had his own vested interests as Patiala was the constituency of Tohra protege Prem Singh Chandumajra".

She said if voted to power, she would ensure that Patiala-based employees would not be discriminated against and added that Patiala would be brought in category "A", whereby employees stationed at Patiala would be entitled to 15 per cent HRA.

Parneet Kaur said the SAD-BJP candidate, Surjit Singh Rakhra, was a political novice and wondered whether he would be able to solve the problems of the people, if at all he was elected.

She said Rakhra was playing into the hands of some politicians. He was the man who owed allegiance to Tohra, but ditched Tohra to land up in the Badal camp, she added, saying that a person who could ditch politicians at will could also ditch the people of the constituency any time. Chandumajra, she said, was a spent force and would lose his security deposit.
