ONGC Ahmedabad project dedicated to Kargil heroes

VADODARA, Aug 16: In view of the situation prevailing in the border areas, and as a part of the Independence Day celebrations, the Ahmedabad Project of the ONGC was dedicated to the Kargil heroes. The retired officers of the ONGC and Mahila Samiti of Ahmedabad Project donated Rs 1 lakh respectively for the welfare of the Kargil martyrs including the 10 valiant sons of the State.

Even Gyandeep Higher Secondary School of ONGC contributed Rs 2 Lakh for the cause. In lieu of distributing sweet packets on Independence Day, an additional sum of Rs 1 lakh was donated for purpose. Col Bajwa on behalf of the Army Station received the cheques.

Posters, drawing and poem competitions were held specially to highlight the Kargil cause. The employees of Gandhar Oil Field went a step further and contributed a sum of more than Rs 50,000 for the disabled soldiers.

Rig crew members' contribution: In addition to the donation of one-day's salary for welfare of the Kargil heroes, the officers and staff members of RIG IPS-700-VI of ONGC, Mehsana asset donated Rs 11,000 for the families of jawans who laid down their lives and those disabled in the skirmishes.

All the 53 Rig crew members decided to donate this amount collected from awards received for exemplary performance on different occasions. The amount was sent to the Army Central Welfare Fund, New Delhi.

Women development forum meeting: The Women Development Forum, at ONGC, Vadodara held a meeting recently. Dr B L Mohanty, chairperson, talked on the guidelines of WDF and cleared some basic doubts about the same. The guest speaker on the occasion was Dr Varuna Bhaya, a leading consultant gyanaecologist of Vadodara. She spoke on menopause and how to cope with its blues. O P Suyan, Manager (P&A), ONGC, Vadodara presented a talk on `Conduct Discipline' and `Appeals Rules' in ONGC. This session saw many queries which was replied by Suyan. Around 50 women attended the meeting.

Asto Elections: Election fever is on at ONGC's Association of Scientific and Technical Officers (ASTO) elections for the term 1999-2001 to be held on August 24 for the post of President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer. V R Tamhankar, Dy GMM (P&A) has been appointed Returning Officer.
