SURAT, Aug 16: The Varachha police claimed to have solved a burglary case after it arrested four people involved in the theft of cash and ornaments worth Rs 3.16 lakhs from a house on the Lambe Hanuman Road less than a month ago. Rs 40,000 worth valuables were also recovered from their possession.The accused have been identified as Chandu Laxman Waghri (Kankolia) 19, Prahlad Sima Waghri (Kankolia), 22, Nanko alias Nanji Balu Parmar, 25 and Ishwar Laxman Waghri (Kankolia) and were arrested in connection with a theft in the house of Lataben Ratilal Gandhi, an old widow, residing at bunglow no 19, Jawahar Society, behind Raj Mahal Theatre.
According to the police, Lataben had gone to visit her brother at Saiyyedpura on July 17 evening and decided to spend the night there. But the four accused broke into the house after midnight and escaped with the ornaments and cash.
Based on concrete information, a police team later reached Chhapi village of Banaskantha, where all four had escaped after the theft. But the accused however returned to the city and a police team, under the supervision of a DCP and ACP, arrested all of them on August 14 evening, the police said in a release. All the accused are on remand till August 21.
