Plea on pension benefits admitted

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Aug 16: Justice S K Keshote of Gujarat High Court has allowed a petition demanding pension benefits filed by a widow Lattaben L Parikh. Lattaben's husband L T Parikh retired from the services of LIC of India as a manager on September 30, 1991 and died on June 23, 1995.

Five days after Parikh's death the government published a pension scheme for LIC staff with effect from November 1, 1993. The cut off date was January 1, 1986. Thus, those employees who were in service of LIC on and after January 1, 1986, and had retired and died subsequently, were also covered under the scheme Lattaben claimed since her husband was alive on November 1, 1993, the benefits were due to her.
