ALIGARH: The district police on Tuesday rescued a six-year-old boy and shot dead his abductor in an encounter in Khatauli village near here, a senior police official said. On a tip off, the police raided the hideouts of the abductors. An encounter ensued in which the police shot dead a kidnapper before rescuing the boy, district police chief P K Joshi said. The boy was kidnapped on Friday last while returning from school and his domestic servant was suspected to be involved in his kidnapping.

Inter-state gang busted in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab police have achieved a breakthrough in working out a large number of crimes, including murders, by arresting seven members of an inter-state gang including ring leader Makhan Singh and recovery of a number of weapons, stolen vehicles, property worth Rs seven lakh including Rs 40,000 in cash. During interrogation, they confessed their involvement in 26 incidents of robberies, murders, androbbing of vehicles. Seizures included revolvers of .38 and .32 bore, two pistols of.315 bore, a Maruti car, a truck and two motorcycles.

Journal on terrorism launched

NEW DELHI: A quarterly journal on terrorism `Faultlines,' has been launched in Delhi. The quarterly focusses on various sources and aspects of existing and emerging conflict in the Indian subcontinent. The current issue consists of articles by experts on caste politics and cycle of strife in Bihar and new strategy for the LoC and low intensity warfare in Kashmir. The quarterly is brought out by the Institute of Conflict Management, a registered non-profit society committed to the continuous evaluation and resolution of problems of internal security.

Constable killed in cross-fire

HYDERABAD: A police constable was killed in an exchange of fire with naxalites of CPI(ML) Janasakti group at Asampet forest area in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh last night. A special police party, on a combing operation, came across a groupof ultras of Suranna Dalam in the forest area in Tadicherla Mandal. In the subsequent exchange of fire, an armed reserve police constable of Visakhapatnam received bullet injuries on the chest and hand.

Jt editor of Rajasthan Patrika dead

JAIPUR: Senior journalist Kailash Mishra and joint editor of Rajasthan Patrika passed away here late last night. He was admitted to the local hospital on Saturday last after he suffered an attack of pneumonia. His condition worsened last evening and he breathed his last late in the night, family sources said.

Bihar rivers flowing above danger mark

PATNA: The flood situation in Bihar again turned for the worse with major rivers like the Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati, Burhi Gandak and Punpun rising along their courses. Official sources said that three more deaths were reported from Muzaffarpur today, taking the toll to 218.
