Cop cleans gun, injures colleague

A constable with the Ram Nagar police, Pradeep Shirke (buckle number 5556), accidentally injured a colleague when his service revolver went off while he was cleaning it on the premises today. The bullet grazed the wrist of Constable Bhagwan Fakir Rao Jadhav (buckle number 3607) before lodging itself in his chest. He was admitted to Mamta hospital in Dombivli and is reportedly in a critical condition. An offence has been registered against Shirke under Section 338 (negligence leading to grievous injury) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police solve cabbie's murder

Vikhroli Parksite police have arrested six persons for the murder of a taxi driver whose vehicle they stole on June 14. The accused were arrested at Juhu garden on Saturday, a month after the body of Vinod Sharma (30) was found They had strangled Sharma after flagging down the vehicle at CST.

Two badges, a taxi driver's uniform and some nylon rope, which was used to strangle the victim, have beenrecovered. The vehicle, which had been painted black and whose registration and number plates had been altered, was also found. The accused have been identified as Lancy D'Souza, Sadruddin Khan, Sudhir Manwar, Shravan Shinde, Ajay Yadav and Sanjay Khairnar.

Free lunch for the poor

The Diwaliben Charitable Trust has introduced a lunch packet scheme. C haritable trusts, institutions and other organisations can buy these packets priced at Rs 2.50 in bulk loads of 500 per day for a year. The food will be distributed among beggars and footpath dwellers at noon daily.
