Chandigarh, Aug 17: Thousands of students from various schools of the city participated in a rally organised by the Chandigarh Police here today to popularise its recently set-up Crime Stoppers Cell.The students marched to the Sector 17 Parade Ground and distributed stickers and pamphlets listing highlights of the Crime Stoppers Cell at various places.
UT Senior Superintendent of Police C.S.R. Reddy exhorted the students to call up the Crime Stoppers Cell at telephone number 544444 and inform the police about any criminal activity witnessed by them. He said that they could also win awards if their information led to the arrest of any criminals.
The rally led to a great deal of inconvenience to the commuters since it was organised in the peak morning hours, They either had to wait or look for alternative routes. Some of them lamented that the police should have held the rally in low traffic areas to avoid traffic jams.
