More powers demanded
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Chandigarh, Aug 17: Former president of the Panjab University Campus Students' Council (PUCSC), Munish Anand, today demanded that the council be given more powers and the members be given representation in the PU senate and syndicate. Anand, who was addressing a press conference on the campus, stated that no powers were vested in the members of the PUCSC. He demanded that the council be allocated a particular budget and a fixed calendar for various kinds of students' activities every year. He criticised the last council headed by D.P.S. Randhawa for ``inactivity on the cultural front.'' ``They were not aware of various grants available and the funds at hand. No societies were formed either for literary activities, dance or dramatics. We had revived the Jhankar festival after 14 years but they could not sustain it,'' he remarked. The University should clarify the ex-officio status of the council members, he stated. Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
