Chandigarh, Aug 17: A division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High today issued notice to Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala for November 1 on a petition seeking action against the guilty in the Meham "murder" case. The others who have been issued notice are the Chief Minister's son, Ajay Chautala, the then DIG Y.S. Nakai, then SP Kartar Singh Tomar and DSP Om Parkash.The Haryana Police had then chosen to proceed against Anand Singh Dangi, another candidate in the fray and when the police had gone to arrest him, firing was resorted to resulting in the death of three persons.
Later, an inquiry was conducted by a retired judge of the Supreme Court. The Saikia Commission of Inquiry submitted its report which said that the actions and circumstances surrounding Chautala and his men resulted in the death of independent candidate Amir Singh.
An inquiry conducted by the the CBI had also found Anand Singh Dangi innocent. Dangi had filed a petition in the High Court seeking action on the basis of the inquiry reports. Earlier notices had been issued only to the state of Haryana, the Union of India and the CBI. However, considering that the decision of the case might affect the above mentioned private parties. notices have been issued to them also.
