Attack on doctor flayed
The Panchkula branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has strongly condemned the recent attack on Dr V.M. Kaul, of Pamposh Nursing Home, Parwanoo. Doctors from Parwanoo, Kalka and Solan have also joined the Panchkula branch of IMA in the criticism of the incident. The Association plans to submit a memorandum to the deputy commissioners of Solan and Panchkula districts.

Tailoring centres
The Nagar Sudhar Sabha and Nari Kala Kendra have decided to open free tailoring centres at Sector 19 and Rally village of Panchkula. The president of the Nagar Sudhar Sabha said that these centres would impart training to widows, illiterate women and women belonging to the weaker sections, in tailoring and fabric painting.

Tree plantation drive launched
Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority launched a tree plantation programme for the year 1999-2000 by planting saplings in Leisure Valley, Sector 62, SAS Nagar, today. Additional Chief Administrator Depinder Singh, PUDA, said that the programme aims to achieve the target in most of the Urban Estates of the state - SAS Nagar, Patiala, Bathinda, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. He added that 20,000 saplings would be planted in the township and that 80,000 saplings have already been planted in all the urban estates of the state.

He added that those completing the three-month training course would be given certificates.

Divisional Engineer (Horticulture) J.S. Gill, PUDA, said that under the anti-parthenium drive, launched on July 10, the Congress grass has been removed from vacant, reserved, undeveloped spots in phases I, II, III-A, III-B-1, III-B-2, VI, V and VI.

Senior PUDA officers, councillors and members of different welfare associations were present on the occasion.
