PANCHKULA, AUG 17: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed Haryana Housing Board to refund the earnest money of Rs 6,127.25 along with interest at the rate of 15 per cent per annum with effect from June 7, 1985. The Housing Board has also been directed to pay a sum of Rs 250 as litigation expenses. The orders were passed by the Forum president, R.C. Taneja. The complainant, Balwant Singh of Chandigarh, had deposited registration fee of Rs 1,225 with the Housing Board. After receipt of letter of the Housing Board, the complainant deposited a sum of Rs 4,902.25 through a bank draft. He was thereafter told that allotment of houses in Housing Board Colony, Ambala Cantt, had been stayed by the Supreme Court and that it is not possible to give allotment. He was also told either to await the decision of the Supreme Court or get the amount refunded by sending advance receipt.
After the decision of the apex court, the complainant again approached the Housing Board with a copy of the decision of the Supreme Court, but the Housing Board did not take any action.
The complainant has thus alleged that the case pending in the Supreme Court was concerned with the hiking of the cost of houses of specific allotees and that he was neither a party nor debarred/stayed to allot the house. In this way, he said, the Housing Board has manipulated and harrased him for 13 years.
Pay compensation, dry cleaners told
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed Super Dry Cleaners of Sector 7 here to pay a sum of Rs 1,500 as compensation and Rs 500 towards cost of proceedings.
The orders were passed by the Forum president, R.C.Taneja.
The complainant Sarita Verma, a resident of Sector 17, Panchkula, had given a silk saree for drycleaning to the Super Dry Cleaners on July 9, 1998. The saree was to be returned on July 19, 1998. However, when she went to collect the saree, she found it discoloured.
The complainant repeatedly asked the dry cleaners to compensate her by paying her the actual price of the saree. However, the dry cleaner denied her the amount. The complainant has thus alleged that Super Dry Cleaners adopted unfair trade-practice and was also negligent.
The Court observed that the saree was discoloured solely on account of the negligence of Super Dry Cleaners.
