PUNE, Aug 17: While claiming that the cleanliness drive launched by him was yielding satisfactory results, Pune's Municipal Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad today stated that the civic administration would go ahead with its plan of setting up garbage processing units at the Paud Road and Uruli Devachi garbage depots to increase the efficiency of the garbage disposal system.Speaking to the newspersons, Gaikwad said the garbage collected from various parts of the city would be assorted and non-recyclable garbage will be composted at the proposed garbage processing units.
When it was pointed out that the residents of Paud Road area were demanding that the garbage depot should be shifted, he said there was no reason for opposing the proposed garbage processing unit as such units did not cause any nuisance.
Gaikwad said allout efforts were on to increase the efficiency of the garbage collection and disposal system. He said the civic administration would be purchasing 24 new vehicles for transporting the garbage.
