Cong activists oppose Bansal's candidature, burn effigy

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, AUG 17: The candidature of Pawan Kumar Bansal of the Congress for the lone Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency, has triggered opposition among his detractors, with some activists of the local Youth Congress burning his effigy at the Sector 17 plaza today afternoon.

Though there were only a few youth activists raising slogans against Bansal, the president of the Chandigarh Territorial Youth Congress Chander Mukhi Sharma, was seen along with president of Sector 17 Traders' Association Subhash Kataria and some other Congressmen, at his shop a few yards away from the effigy site.

Sharma later said he had nothing to do with it and was holding a meeting of the Youth Congress to discuss the "protest" and further action.

Incidentally, Sharma is known to be a protege of Indian Youth Congress chief Manish Tewari, who was in the race for the party's candidature for the Chandigarh seat.
