State transfers four officials

MUMBAI: The State Government today, transferred four senior officials. A K D Jadhav has been transferred to the cooperation and textiles department as its principal secretary. Sanjay Ubale has been made the additional development commissioner of the industries department. B G Veer and Sunil Porwal will be officer on special duty of the Maharashtra Rajya Khadi Gramudyog Mandal and secretary of the State Power Regulatory Board respectively.

US sanctions

WASHINGTON: The United States has said the sanctions imposed against India after last year's nuclear tests would continue and that lending by international financial institutions for the country's non-basic human needs would be deferred. ``The sanctions against India, harsher than against Pakistan, (would) continue,'' a State Department official told reporters here on Wednesday.

SP candidates

MUMBAI: Samajwadi Party president, Abu Asim Azmi, today announced the names of one candidate each, for theAssembly and Lok Sabha (LS) polls. The party will field Suhail Lokhandwala from south-central Mumbai for the LS polls. Lokhandwala's name was earlier announced as the party candidate from the Nagpada assembly constituency.
