VADODARA, Aug 19: District Returning Officer and Collector Anil Mukim rejected on Thursday the nomination of Jayanti Phula Patel during the scrutiny of papers. The decision leaves only seven candidates in the fray for the Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency and six for the Chhotaudepur seat.During the scrutiny, held in the presence of representatives of all the candidates, Mukim found that Patel, an Independent candidate from the Chhani Jakat Naka area, had not mentioned his age in the nomination paper, as required by election codes, leading to the cancellation. There was no protest by the candidate in question or any other party representatives present at the scene.
The candidates now left in the fray are Congress' Urmila Patel, Jayaben Thakker (BJP), Upendrasinh Gohil (NCP), Prem J Pawar (Bahujan Samaj Party), Satish Desai (JD-United) and Vikram Verma and Chhattar Tank (both Independents).
While the Congress goes to the upcoming polls with its usual Hand symbol and the BJP with Lotus, the NCP has sought Clock as its party symbol. BSP will have Elephant and JD-United an Arrow. Of the Independents, Tank wats either Railway engine or a Bullock cart as his election symbol and Verma either a Boat, Jug or a Kite.
