Earshot -- Pune

Murli Sharma
Missing you
Recently we dropped in on the sets of Hum Sub Ek Hain and must say, Jatin Kanakia's absence was conspicuous. Producer Aasit Modi is still in a state of shock and missing him badly as he had a long association with him. Modi had given him his Gujarati break with a serial Mr.Fuske, way back in 1991. He also gave him a two episode role in Rajani in which he played a doctor. ``He was quite frustrated with his comic image so I gave him the role of a serious doctor in Rajani and he was not a star then,'' recalls Modi and adds, ``He had no vices, he was only a workabolic, so we're all surprised.'' Names that have been shortlisted to replace the inimitable actor are Tiku Talsania, Vikram Gokhale, Navin Nischol, Sudhir Pandey.

Sony's Sixer
There is some interesting news from Sony Entertainment Television, especially for cricket lovers. For the first time it's officially entering into the world of official cricket. The channel will bring to viewers the excitement of world class cricket by bringing a live telecast of Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka World Cricket Section series 1999-2000. The live action would be happening between reigning world champions - Australia and India and Sri Lanka. The channel haa also procured the rights for the exclusive telecast of The Singapore Challenge to be played between India, West Indies and Zimbabwe from September 2.

Only joking
On the party front, Zee threw a bash at the newly opened Regent Hotel in suburban Mumbai to launch their new comedy slot Gubbare - every Friday, 9.30 pm. Interestingly, Gulzar has written the lyrics and Vishal Bharadwaj (of Maachis fame) has composed the title track. What makes it different is that it has a defined story, unlike other sitcoms and will go through all genres of comedy: satire, farce, wit, parody... It was a happening bash as a lot of celebrities were present like Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Poonam Dhillon, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Moon Moon Sen, to name only a few.

Batch-up
While on the Zee bash, it went on till 3 am and the most unexpected thing happened. Amongst the television personalities present were Ajai Sinha, director of Hasratein and Seema Kapoor who earlier had starred in the serial. After 70 episodes they parted ways, if you remember on a very bitter note. Ever since, they have not been on talking terms for over two years. And believe it or not, at the bash, we witnessed their patch up which was hard to believe. They hugged and not only swore to forget and forgive but they are also working together again. Gosh! This time it would be produced by Dinesh Bansal. Well, good for them, also the viewers probably, but we only hope history doesn't repeat itself!
