Goa minister, Alemao's nomination rejected

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
PANAJI, AUG 19: Nomination papers of two candidates including Goa Industries Minister Churchill Alemao were rejected from South Goa Lok Sabha constituency on scrutiny today.

The North Goa and South Goa Lok Sabha constituencies go to polls in the first phase on September five and as many as 24 candidates had filed their papers for the two seats till the last day of filing the documents yesterday.

Nomination papers of Alemao (Congress) and Phadte Nageshnaru (BJP) were rejected, official sources said.

In each constituency, Congress and BJP had put up two candidates and the papers rejected from South Goa were of the `dummies' for the official candidates of the parties, party sources said.

Joaquim Alemao (Congress), Ramakant Angle (BJP) and former Chief Minister and state president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Dr Wilfred D'Souza are among the ten candidates in the fray from South Goa.
