Three Hundred BSP men join Congress

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, Aug 19: Parneet Kaur, Congress candidate for the Patiala Lok Sabha seat, received a shot in the arm, when 300 Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) men, led by the party's district office-bearer Ramesh Kumar, joined the Congress party in the presence of Parneet Kaur and Ravinder Singh Sohi, chairman, Block samiti, Banur, at village Khelan Malan.

Addressing a rally at Khelan Malan, Praneet Kaur said that the ruling SAD-BJP candidate from Banur had done nothing concrete for the development of the Assembly constituency. She said that nearly all roads linking more than 95 per cent of the villages of the constituency were full of pot-holes and in such a bad shape, that even a car could not be driven around.

She said she had also come to know of non-availability of proper drinking water and non-implementation of various schemes promised by the SAD-BJP combine. And no Harijan girl was given Rs 5,100 at the time of her marriage under the shagun scheme launched by the state government, nor were the widows and aged persons given pensions under the pension schemes promised by the ruling combine.

The district Congress Committee (rural) chief Hardyal Singh, speaking on the occasion, lambasted the policies of Capt Kanwaljit Singh, saying that instead of looking after the dwindling financial resources of the state, the Minister was more busy hatching conspiracies within his own party.Parneet Kaur, in a hectic tour schedule of Banur Assembly segment, addressed public rallies at more than 20 villages including Khelan Malan, Dharamagarh, Jalaur, Humayunpura, Jaslan Jaully, Sangoli, Mainpur, Lalru, Barauli, Rampur and Dera Bassi.
