Polo players excel in international championship

NEW DELHI, Aug 19: India's Simran Singh Shergil and Yogeshwar Singh were adjudged `best international rider and team player' and `best international player', respectively, for their good show at the junior international tournament organised by Federation International De Polo 3 at Bagota, Colombia last week.

The two, selected for the tournament on the basis of their fine display in the domestic season, received the award for their good horsemanship, stick work and excellent team spirit in the tournament held from August 4 to 8, an Indian Polo Association release said here.

Shergill and Yogeshwar Singh teamed up with two Colombian players for the four-day event for under-16 in which teams from eight countries including Pakistan took part.

Gaurav hits 121
A fine unbeaten 121 by Gaurav Chabbra powered Gyan Bharati School, Saket to a 29-run victory over Hansraj Model School (Punjabi Bagh) in a limited overs match at Hansraj School ground.

Kushal, Tribun Dass and Gaurav Chabbra were the wicket-takers for the winners while Ankur and Ritesh took two wickets each for the losers.

Brief scores: Gyan Bharati School: 205 for 9 in 35 overs (Gaurav Chabbra 121 not out, Karan Sharma 30, Sidhant Arora 20, Ankur Garg 2 for 34, Ritesh Kumar 2 for 26) bt Hansraj Model School: 176 (Akur Garg 36, Sahil Verma 28, Ranchit Kumar 25, Gaurav Chabbra 2 for 22, Kushal 2 for 16, Tribun Das 2 for 17).

Bal Bharati win
Bal Bharati School (Ganga Ram Road) overwhelmed Apex Public School (Burari) 66-32 in the Ramjas Basketball tournament. Akash (29) and Manav (14) were the principal scorers for the winners while Arpit (22) was the top scorer for the losers.

In other matches, Mount St Mary got walkover; Chinmaya beat Nutan Marathi School 52-32 while in the last match of the day, Shri Ram School outplayed Springdales 48-26.
