Centre informed about ISI activities, says Basu

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

CALCUTTA, AUG 23: West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu said today that his Government had been keeping the Centre constantly posted about the ISI activities in the State.

Speaking to reporters, Basu said the State Government was aware of Bangladesh's claim of recovering huge explosives sent from India. ``We have told the Centre what we have to say in this respect,'' Basu said.

Officials however refuted Bangladesh's claim that the explosives were sent from India by truck through the Petrapol border. ``It is virtually impossible to carry these explosives in a truck through the border check post because of increased vigilance in the wake of ISI activities and recovery of huge explosives from West Bengal,'' they said.

``We are yet to ascertain whether these explosives, seized from a godown in the border area on Bangladesh side, were meant for different militant groups in India,'' they added.

Bangladesh had claimed that its border guards had recovered huge explosives from a godown on its side across thePetrapol border of West Bengal.
