Pak firing kills jawan

NEW DELHI: One soldier was killed and a civilian injured when Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked shelling in the Kargil sector on Sunday evening, official sources said today. The sources said one soldier of 153 Medium Field Regiment was killed when a splinter hit him inside a truck near Harka Bahadur bridge in Kaksar sub-sector at 5:30 pm.

Monkeys case

NEW DELHI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court will hear, on Tuesday, a suit filed by Hyderabad-based Shantha Biotechnics Pvt Ltd seeking a damage of Rs 100 crore from various Government departments for disruption of animal toxicology tests of its anti-cancer drug due to the forcible release of test monkeys.

Sainiks held

VARANASI: Police today lathicharged a group of 200 Shiv Sainiks and arrested 50 of them when they tried to proceed towards the disputed Gyanvapi mosque-Vishwanath temple to offer prayers defying orders.

Jessica probe

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Monday raised serious doubtover the probe into the killing of model Jessica Lal in socialite Bina Ramani's `illegal' bar here in March and questioned the police why it had not charged those who cleaned the floor of the restaurant after the murder.
