AHMEDABAD, Aug 23: In another attack on Congress candidate for Gandhinagar seat T N Seshan, Minister of State for Home and BJP MLA Haren Pandya has alleged that former chief election commissioner T N Seshan criticised India during his visits abroad. The Home Minister has asked Seshan to take a pledge in public that he would not criticise the country when abroad. He also asked Seshan to clarify his views on the issue. Pandya said the former CEC took the help of Shiv Sena when he was candidate for President's post and now he has joined the Congress, which has a completely different ideology. The Home Minister alleged that Seshan had joined the Congress as he was power hungry.
Besides, the Home Minister also asked Seshan to give a list of the donors and also make public the accounts of the trust formed by him. He charged the former CEC with having taken donations from controversial persons.
Pandya said even the Supreme Court had censured Seshan for criticising it. He wanted to know if Seshan could provide any assurances that he would not behave in a high-handed manner with the common man if he was elected.
Meanwhile, Prohibition and Social Justice Minister Fakirbhai Vaghela has said the BJP in Gujarat would certainly win more seats than it did during the previous elections. He said the Pokhran nuclear test, the Kargil conflict along with several developmental activities carried out by the BJP Government at the Centre would certainly help the party.
