Double murder solved

The two killers of a housewife and her mother-in-law in Govandi who had eluded police for three years were arrested at Shivaji Nagar on Thursday.The duo was nabbed on suspicion of being involved in another murder case revealed Senior Inspector, Arun Awate of the Shivaji Nagar police station, but interrogation revealed that they were the perpetrators of the double murder.

Said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dashrat Ahvad, Acchan Khurshid Sheikh alias Ansar (22) and Firdosh Shaikh (23), confessed to suffocating Shalvi Raja (30) and her mother-in-law Janki Nadar to death at their Narayan Guru Margand residence and had stolen valuables worth Rs 1 lakh on February 26, 1996.

Cyclist dies in accident

A 17-year-old cyclist died on the spot when he was knocked down by a speeding motorist on the Airoli-Mulund link bridge today.

Umesh Chorge, was crossing the road when Muthuraj Balliah, failing to control the brakes of his Maruti, crashed into him with full impact.Chorge, a resident of Airoli, was bleeding profusely and succumbed to his injuries before help could be rushed to him. The Rabale police has arrested Balliah under Section 289, 304(A).

7 freed from brothel

Raiding a brothel in Kamathipura, the Nagpada police freed seven girls who had been allegedly forced into prostitution late on Thursday night. A squad led by PI Dinesh Kumar Verma raided the Parsee Chawl, Road 13, Kamathipura premises at around 10.30 pm where they found seven girls, including 3 minors. The seven girls have been taken to a rehabilitation centre in Chembur. Police also arrested the Mohammed Abdul Gaffar Shaikh (35) and Seeta Lingappa Kalur (35).

Godmother release on Sept 3

Godmother, the National award winning film that kicked up a controversy after a woman in Gujarat on whose life the film is said to be based, filed a court case, will finally be released on September 3, its director Vinay Shukla has said.
