MUMBAI, AUG 27: The Maharashtra unit of Janata Dal (Secular) released on Friday its manifesto, which focussed on welfare of farmers, adequate water and power supply and employment for the youth.Releasing the manifesto, JD leader Pramila Dandavate launched a a frontal attack on Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance government in Maharashtra. She said the Progressive Democratic Front comprising Nationalist Congress Party, Janata Dal (S), Republican Party of India (Athavale), Samajwadi Party and Shetkari Sanghatana will provide a better government on all counts.
The manifesto states the Sena-BJP leaders were ignorant of farmers' problems and the ministers failed to provide any solution to various problems faced by farmers from time to time. ``Several small farmers had to commit suicide in the Sena-BJP regime. If voted to power, we will provide the farmers with adequate financial assistance, subsidised fertilisers and pesticides and better quality seeds throughout the year. Moreover, to provide farmerswith adequate water, we would launch small watershed area development projects at village level,'' says the manifesto.
The party has promised to base the procurement price for various crops on the production cost borne by the farmers. ``We will establish a Maharashtra Agricultural Price Commission, which will have adequate representation by farmers. The crop insurance scheme will be implemented in the State with immediate effect. Special law will be enacted to provide minimum wages to farm labourers and landless labourers will be provided with small plots of land for cultivation,'' the manifesto declares.
The JD (S) has promised power supply at a lower rate. ``More power generation plants will be set through the Maharashtra State Electricity Board. A high level inquiry will be conducted into the entire deal with Enron Corporation struck by the Sena-BJP alliance,'' the party promises.
The party announced that it would substantially increase the budgetary allocation for education. It promised revised payscales for Anganwadi teachers and assistants in particular and for teachers in general. It has promised that a state level minorities commission will be set up and educational institutions for minorities will be promoted statewide. ``The party will initiate action against those held guilty by the Justice B N Srikrishna commission,'' declared the manifesto.
