All set for Sonia's Patiala rally

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, Aug 27: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee is leaving no stone unturned to organise a big show here tomorrow, when Congress president Sonia Gandhi arrives to address an election rally in favour of Parneet Kaur, party's candidate from the Patiala constituency.

Workers were busy installing shamianas at the Yadavindra Stadium today, though work was hampered for a short while in the evening due to rain.

While talking to The Indian Express, Congress leader Col. Zorawar Singh, who was coordinating the arrangements at the stadium, admitted that he had no prior experience of organising such a big rally, and that he was merely following the instructions of PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh and others.

The PPCC chief did visit the venue at 3 p.m. to oversee the arrangements and left after ensuring that the work was progressing at a satisfactory pace.

Senior Congress leader and in-charge of rally arrangements Ramesh Kumar Singla said final touches were being given and that the work would be completed by late evening. He claimed that over one lakh people would attend the rally and that all party leaders were busy making arrangements to transport people from all over the constituency.

The arrangements have defaced the hockey ground of Yadvindra Public School, the venue of the rally, what with the holes made to erect the shamiana, dotting the entire ground. Significantly, the rally is being organised during school hours, which is likely to affect the children's studies for the day.
