Choice between desi, videshi rule -- Badal

Gurpreet Singh
KHANNA, Aug 27: Referring to Congress president Sonia Gandhi as ``an inexperienced alien'', Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal urged the party workers not to overlook the national interest by projecting her as the future prime minister and to instead choose an Indian, Atal Behari Vajpayee, as the PM.

Badal also accused the previous Congress prime ministers of pursuing ``wrong'' foreign policies and urged the voters not to repeat the mistake by electing Sonia this time. The choice, he said, had to be made between `desi' and `videshi' rule.

Badal, who was here to campaign in favour of the SAD-BJP candidate for Roopnagar Lok Sabha seat, Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal, also attacked All India Shiromani Akali Dal chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra, charging him with vitiating the peaceful atmosphere in Punjab.

Referring to the alliance between the breakaway Akali Dals, led by Tohra, Simranjeet Singh Mann and Kuldeep Singh Wadala, he said the combine posed a serious threat to stability in Punjab. Tohra's `third front' was helping the Congress by trying to cut into the Akali vote-bank, he added.

Badal failed to mention any of his government's achievements, or his party's policies and programmes, while pointing out that the BJP would emerge as the single largest party in the polls.

Earlier, Badal visited Dhuri, Nabha, Amloh, Samrala, Sirhind and Kharar, many of which are considered to be Tohra's strongholds.
