MUMBAI, AUG 27: Gaurav Gadodia of Mumbai, the sole Indian representative at the World Junior Chess Championships for the Blind and Visually Impaired, suffered his second loss of the tournament when he was beaten by Pavlovic Miroslav of Croatia, according to AICFB release. The championship is organised by the Belgian Chess Federation for the Blind under the aegis of the International Braille Chess Association to decide the best blind chess player in the world in the under-21 age category.Gadodia, who has three points from five rounds, however, can take solace from the fact that he is leading the players who are under-18 years of age in the tournament. It has been learnt that, while the overall champion will be the new Junior World Champion (Under 21) for the Blind, prizes will be given to the best player in the under-18 and under-16 age categories. Gadodia therefore has every chance of finishing on top in the under-18 age category.
Today was a day of upsets. The top seed and strong title-favourite HervaisAdrien of France suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of local favourite Devos Piet of Belgium. The Belgian thereby leads the field with an all-win record and with a score of five points he is a full point clear of his nearest rivals. With only two more rounds to go, the title seems to be very much in the bag for Devos Piet, unless there is a complete reversal for him in both the remaining rounds.
The other shocking defeat of the day was that of Vlach Karel of the Czech Republic, the No. 3 seed. Karel, playing with black pieces lost to Ukraine's Pavlenko A.
