Rajguru dance to Shilpa's octave

PUNE, Aug 27: Two hat-tricks by Shilpa Metkar gave a right start to the Multi Games District Sports Council, Pune U-19 girls football tournament, as she led Hutatma Rajguru to twin wins on opening-day at the SSPMS School ground today.

Shilpa Metkar scored four goals including her first hat-trick in their 5-0 verdict against Bharat Children, Walchandnagar. Later playing against BMCC, Metkar continued from where she had left it to score another four goals (second hat-trick), while her teammates piled on the BMCC to return home with a 8-0 margin win.

Meanwhile in the boys section, Ness Wadia's Sameer Master spelt the doom for the defending champions Fergusson College scoring a perfect double in his teams 4-0 win in the quarter-final round.

A past student of St Vincent's, Sameer scored in the 20th and 45th minutes of play. Abhishek Shah and Albert Anthony chipped in one each pushing the holders out of contention.

Girls U-19: Hutatma Rajguru 5 (Shilpa Metkar 4, Subhangi Lambade) bt Bharat Chindren Walchandra 0; Hutatma Rajguru 8 (Shilpa Metkar 4, Mangal Nikam, Subhangi Lambade Shryu Misal -all one each) bt BMCC 0; Inamdar 3 (Nadim Ausari 2, Sofiya Towari) lost to BMCC 3 (Roshmi Shetty, Vrushi Nair, Varsha Bhandari).
Boys U-19 (S/F): Poona College 1 (Jude George) bt St Patrick's 0. Ness Wadia 4 (Sameer Master -2, Abhishek Shah, Albert Anthony) bt Fergusson 0.
(Q/F): Poona College 3 (Andrew D'Souza, Yusuf Ahmed, Jude George) bt Loyola 1 (Kedar Sawant); St Patricks 2 (Frank Fernandes, Stephen M) bt Vidya Bhavan 0; Ness Wadia 1 (Albert A) bt S M Choksey 0; Fergusson College 3 (Kartik Mandrekar -2, Varun Khanwalkar) bt Abhiman, Nigdi 0.
