MUMBAI, SEPT 3: Maharashtra chief secretary Arun Bongirwar got a taste of how government machinery works at the Thane collectorate where he conducted an overview meeting regarding the elections today.No sooner had Bongirwar accompanied by additional chief secretary (Home) V Ranganathan, the Director General of police Arvind Inamdar, Thane Collector Mukesh Khullar, Dahanu deciding officer Shrikant Singh and TMC commissioner T S Chandrashekhar boarded the elevator that it got stuck between two floors for 12 minutes.
At the meeting, Bongirwar assured senior police and election officials that the state government had geared itself up for conducting assembly and parliamentary elections peacefully. As assembly and parliamentary polls are being simultaneously held after 32 years and around the same time as the festival season, he advised police to take every precaution. Police officials informed the secretary that prohibitory orders have been strictly applied in the Thane police commissionerate where there are5 hypersensitive polling centres (Talasari: 2, Dahanu: 2 and Jawhar: 1) and 143 sensitive polling centres.
Senior officials said that the TMC commissioner being issued a notice for breach of conduct was also discussed. In a related development the Navpada police have registered an offence against the TMC public relations officer S Bhabad for the press note which drew the EC's ire.
