MUMBAI, September 3: The Air Intelligence Unit of Customs today recovered 180 ten-tola bars, that were concealed in the toilet rooftop of an Air-India Airbus aircraft.
The seized gold weighed nearly 21 kilogrammes and and was valued at Rs 85 lakh. Deputy Commissioner Abhai Srivastav and Superintendent of AIU, S A Amle searched the AI airbus (VT-EJJ) flight coming from Dubai via Abu Dhabi to the airport. The gold bars bearing Swiss markings were wrapped in separate packets and stuck inside the inner wall of the roof of the rear toilet with glue, a press release stated.
The possibility of ground staff's collusion in the smuggling is being investigated by the Customs.
