Addressing a well-attended public meeting at the Anaj Mandi here, along with former PPCC chief Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, he said there was a massive swing in favour of the Congress.

Mounting a blistering attack on the performance of Badal government, the PPCC chief said that there was increasing disenchantment among all sections of society, as the government had failed to fulfill its pre-poll promises. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal unleashed a fierce attack on the Vajpayee government, saying it had mishandled the Kargil issue.

If the government had acted on time, hundreds of precious lives lost in fighting the infiltrators could have been saved. ``So there was hardly any victory in Kargil.''

Meanwhile, in Patiala parliamentary constituency, the Congress seems to have consolidated its position, with most of the dissident leaders joining the election campaign of the party candidate. While Raj Khurana, a former minister, joined the campaign at Rajpura on Wednesday and arranged a big public meeting there, Birdevinder Singh, Sant Ram Singla, and Brij Lal Goel have also addressed several party meetings.

Prominent among others who spoke at the meeting today included senior Congress leader Randeep Singh, PPCC general secretary Ramesh Singla, former legislator and Punsup chairman Brij Lal Goel, and party candidate from Ropar Shamsher Singh Dullo.
