Ruparel sole leader after four rounds

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
MUMBAI, SEPT 4: Ruparel emerged sole leader at the end of the fourth round of the Group A Inter-collegiate chess tournament at the University Sports Pavilion today. Ruparel defeated Government Law College while RD National scored over Chetana to move into second spot with 12 points.

RA Podar, who were held by Saboo Sidik 2-2, are third along with Kirti and VESIT (Chembur) with 11.5 points. In Group B, RK Talreja of Ulhasnagar lead with 11.5 points after three rounds. Defending champions MCC and Pendharkar are on second spot with 10.

Holiday inn rally

Twice in arrears, Holiday Inn ralied to score a 4-2 victory over Western Railway in the quarter-finals of the nine-a-side JC Maitra Cup football tournament conducted by Bengal Club at Shivaji Park on today.

Pascoal Fernandes scored a hat-trick while J Ibrahim scored the other goal. Parveen Singh scored twice for Western. Holiday Inn now meet Union Bank in the semi-finals.

Father Agnel went down by a solitary goal to Central Railway, AngneloFernandes being the scorer.

Maharashtra State Police, last year's runners-up, scored 2-0 over Dadar XI, through goals by Javed Pathan and Gajanan More.

In the last match of the evening, the 1997 champions Union Bank also made the semi-finals, beating RCF by a solitary goal scored by Keenan Oliver. They meet Holiday Inn.

Rizvi win

Rizvi SC defeated Mahindra Juniors 1-0 in the Western India Football Association's Senior Division match at the Cooperage. Cedric Pinto did the scoring. In another match, Bengal CYS drew goalless with Bombay Customs.
