PUCSC polls on Sept 24

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 14: Panjab University today announced the election date for the Campus Students' Council elections 1999-2000 following the clearance from the UT Home Department.

The elections to the posts of office-bearers and departmental representative(s) of the council would be held on September 24 simultaneously on the university campus and in the colleges affiliated to PU in Chandigarh. This was announced here by Dean Student Welfare (DSW) Dr V.K. Bansal in a meeting with the representatives of the various students' unions.

As per the schedule issued by the DSW, the date of filing of nominations has been fixed at September 21 between 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The scrutiny of the nominations would start at 11.01 a.m. to 12 noon and the display of the list of candidates would be done at 1.30 p.m. The filing of objections would start at 1.30 p.m. and would conclude at 4 p.m. on the same day.

The list of the approved candidates would be put up on September 22 at 10 a.m. and the withdrawal of the candidature would start at 10.01 a.m. and go on till 12.30 p.m. The final list of the candidates would be put up at 3 p.m. the same day. The polling would start on September 24 at 10 a.m.The DSW has called upon the student bodies to comply with certain directions to ensure smooth functioning of the poll procedure.

These include not to deface the walls of the hostel and the university buildings (the DSW has arranged for three boards to be fixed outside each department for displaying election related posters); not to indulge in any violence, has disallowed to keep any guest in the hostel, has asked all the students to carry their identity cards, has urged not to rope in any politician to address the campaigns and has asked to seek the permission of the DSW before inviting any outsider to address the campaigns.
