Pulse-polio programme
More than 2.31 lakh children below the age of five will be administered pulse polio doses in six rounds of immunisation in the district between October and March 2000. Unlike the previous four years, when the programme was carried out in two phases, it will be held on several days: October 24, November 11, December 19, January 23, February 27 and March 23. Hundreds of booths will be set up throughout the district to administer the doses free of cost.Dangs contests
The Gujarat Mahila Arthik Vikas Nigam and the information department of Dangs jointly organised a `Hair-do and Mehendi Competition' for women at the district headquarters at Ahwa. Fifty women took part in the competition. In the hai-do competition Monaben Upasni, Sarlaben Surya and Apekshaben Shah won the first, second and third prizes respectively, while in the Mehendi competition, Ramilaben Patel, Kavitaben Solanki and Mona Upasni walked away with the top honours.
Education plans
Additional Chief Secretary (Education) Sudhir Mankad recently visited Dangs district and held meetings with the principal of Sikshan Bhavan and district education department officials in a effort to improve the education level of the district. An action plan was chalked out at the meeting.
Programme
A 20-day leprosy eradication-cum-awareness programme began in the Dangs district on September 11, an official release said. Addressing the inaugural function, Dangs Collector J P Gupta said leprosy was a social menace and stressed the need for personal contact and rehabilitation of patients. A number of programmes have been organised to check leprosy in the district.
Ban on arms
Navsari District Collector R R Chauhan has issued a directive banning the use of weapons until September 26. The directive, issued on the basis of the Bombay Police Act, aims at checking violence during Ganesh Utsav, which began on Monday.
