MUMBAI: The Maharashtra state hockey team won two matches and drew one in their first leg tour of Holland. Maharashtra drew their first match against Kawpong Club at Utrecht 3-3 with Anil Aldrin, Sabu Varky and Manoj Lokhande scoring a goal each.

Against Orange Zwart at Iendhoven (Philips City), the state team won 2-1 with Lokhande and Kishore Kumar getting the goals. The Orange Zwart has three players who have played for Germany.

The state team drubbed Daring Hockey Club 8-1 with Dhanraj Pillay and Gavin Ferreira scoring a brace each and Amjad Khan, Yogesh More, Lokhande and Kishore scoring once each.

Chima suspended, fined Rs 3 lakh

CALCUTTA: The Indian Football Association suspended Mohun Bagan striker Chima Okerie till April 30 next year and imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh for manhandling the referee during a Super Division league match against East Bengal on August 31.

Three other Mohun Bagan players Samuel Omollo, Debjit Ghosh and Dulal Biswas who werealso named in the referee and match commissioner's report on the violence-marred match have been fined Rs 10,000 each.

Bhandari team lift pro-am title

BANGALORE: Vivek Bhandari and his team emerged triumphant at the pro-am event of the Rs 6 lakh Wills Southern Open at the Karnataka Golf Association Golf course. Rafiq Ali and his team finished runner-up, while Mohammed Islam and team finished third.

Mongia forwards fitness certificate

HYDERABAD: The injured Indian wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia forwarded his fitness certificate to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday.

``I spoke to JY lele, secretary, BCCI, this evening and informed him about the fitness certificate, testifying that my injured wrist is fully recovered and am fit to play in the first class cricket,'' Mongia said.

IOC upstage India Cements, in semis
