Harsh Chopra, Ekta win finals

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 14: Top seeded Harsh Chopra (FCI) won the battle between two veterans trying to make a strong comeback in the Delhi table tennis scene. In the final of the 20th Bal Bharati Open Table Tennis Tournament at Talkatora Stadium here today, left-handed Chopra defeated Kala in four games to add to the win he achieved over the former India-ranked player in the Summer Open.

Despite the year-long layoff, it is creditable for both Kala and Chopra to make it to the finals of several local tournaments. That speaks poorly of the available talent in the Capital despite the number of tournaments held every year.

Kala won the first game but faded away in the next three games when Chopra led from the start and maintained the lead.

In the women's final, Ekta Bhambri of Lady Shri Ram College defeated her mate Ishani Barua in three straight games to once again dominate the women's section.

Prizes were given away by G P Gautam, Officer on Special Duty, CBSE.Results: Men's singles (final): Harsh Chopra (FCI) bt Himansh P Kala (Central Bank of India) 18-21, 21-15, 21-17, 21-18. semifinals: Harsh Chopra bt Ganesh Ahuja 18-21, 21-23, 21-14, 21-10, 21-15; Himanshu P. Kala bt Ansh Adlakha 21-13, 21-17, 21-11. Women's singles (final): Ekta Bhambri (LSR) bt Ishani Baruah (LSR) 22-20, 21-7, 21-16. semifinals: Ekta Bhambri bt Ravjit Kaur 21-17, 21-16, 21-14; Ishani Barua bt Nandini Kulkarni 21-15, 21-14, 14-21, 22-20.
