Girish to lead Panchkula team

PANCHKULA, SEPT 14: Girish Bhanot will lead the Panchkula District team in the Haryana Inter-District Pataudi Trophy cricket. They play their first match against Chandigarh tomorrow at the Gursagar ground in Chandigarh.

Team: Girish Bhanot (captain), Anil Kapoor, Munish Joshi, Amit Bhardwaj, Narender Walia, Harinder Singh, Vinod Binta, Umesh Kaira, Sarpreet, Amit Puri, Gaurav Sood, Rajeev, Rajesh Jain, Jaswinder Singh, Vishal Gupta and Ranjeet Rana.

Badminton at PU Hall
The Chandigarh State Badminton ranking-cum-selection tournament, scheduled to be held at Sector 42 Stadium from September 16 to 19, has been shifted to Panjab University Badminton Hall, according to organising secretary Col Raj Parmar. The shifting of the venue has been necessitated due to repair work of Sector 42 Stadium.

Competitions for veterans in the age groups of plus 35, plus 45 and plus 55 will also be conducted during the State meet. The association has also introduced boys and girls under-10 categories from this year.

Cricket tournament
The annual Chandigarh cricket tournament for schoolboys for the Shivalik Trophy will be organised by the UT Cricket Association from September 21 at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, according to association secretary SS Bawa.Entries close with Naib Singh or Harish Kumar at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium before September 18.

Ravi wins title
Patiala: Ravi Chandran and Manisha bagged titles in the men's and women's section, respectively, in the Patiala District table Tennis championship which concluded at the D.C.W. Staff Institution Club, here today. Ravi Chandran beat Harmanpreet Singh 19-21, 21-17, 21-12, 21-15 while Manisha got the better of Harleen 21-18, 23-21, to wear the women's crown.

Kamaljit defeated Manish 21-15, 21-10 while Sher Bahadur outplayed Pawan Saini 21-14, 21-19, to win titles in the cadet and sub-junior boys section, respectively.

The junior boys title went to Rahul Bose who defeated Randeep Singh 21-15, 21-18.

Results: Cadet: Boys: Singles: Final:- Kamaljit Singh (SGH School) bt Manish Saini (KV2 DCW) 21-15, 21-10. Cadet: Girls: Singles: Final: Manisha Sharma (KV2 DCW) bt Yashpreet Gulati (T.K.S.) 21-19, 18-21, 21-16.

Girls: Sub-junior: Singles: Final: Sarika Sharma (KV2 DCW) bt Neha Sharma (KV2 DCW) 15-21, 21-18, 21-17. Sub-junior: Boys: Singles: Final: Sher Bahadur (KV2 DCW) bt Pawan Saini (KV2 DCW) 21-14, 21-19.

Junior: Boys: Singles: Final: Rahul Bose (YPS) bt Randeep Singh (SGH School) 21-15, 21-18. Junior: Girls: Singles: Final: Manisha Sharma (KV2 DCW) bt Neha Sharma (KV2 DCW) 21-12, 21-19.

Women: Singles: Final: Manisha (KV2 DCW) bt Harleen (Pheel Khanna) 21-18, 23-21.

Men: Singles: Semifinal: Ravi Chandran (NIS) Bt Prince Ghuman (NIS) 21-12, 21-17; Harmanpreet (NIS) Bt Saurabh Mukherji (MMMC) 22-20, 21-18. Final: Ravi Chandran (NIS) bt Harmanpreet Singh (NIS) 19-21, 21-17, 21-12, 21-15.
