NEW DELHI, SEPT 17: India and the United States today discussed measures to counter international terrorism with New Delhi saying that state-sponsored terrorism posed a threat to global peace and security.The issue of international terrorism figured prominently during the wide-ranging parleys Michael Sheehan, ambassador-at-large and chief coordinator for counterterrorism in the US state department had with senior Indian officials of the external affairs and home ministries.
Sheehan, on a two-day visit, also met Brajesh Mishra, principal secretary to the prime minister and foreign secretary K Raghunath.
During the talks, the Indian officials drew Washington's attention to continuing Pakistan-backed terrorism in Kashmir and other countries.
The upcoming Indo-US dialogue on countering terrorism follows the recent visit to Washington by two officials of the external affairs ministry to discuss the Afghan developments.
Sheehan, the US anti-terrorism coordinator, whose office issues the annual report onstate sponsors of terrorism, helps the secretary of state in identifying terrorist organisations.
