Jamnalal Bajaj awards declared

MUMBAI, SEPT 17: Gujarati author Narayan Desai, technology expert Dr Ajoy Kumar Basu and social worker Saraswathi Gora are among the recipients for this year's prestigious Jamnalal Bajaj awards. London-based Professor Sir Joseph Rotblat has also been selected for the International Award for ``promoting Gandhian values outside India'', Madhur Bajaj, trustee of the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, told reporters here today.

Desai has been chosen for his contributions in the field of constructive work and Basu for application of science and technology for rural development. Gora has been chosen for the late Jankidevi Bajaj award for the upliftment and welfare of women and children.

This year, the foundation received 102 nominations from all over India, including 43 from Maharashtra, said Bajaj. Thirteen countries, including the UK and USA, also sent in nominations for the international award. Comprising a citation, trophy and a cash prize of Rs two lakh, the award will be presented at a function in November inMumbai.
