St John's, Golden Valley triumph

NEW DELHI, September 17: St john's School, Ranchi, defeated Army Boys, ASC Bangalore 3-1 in the sub-junior category of Subroto Mukherjee Cup football torunament.

Rajender Xalco opened the account for winners with a powerful shot from 25-yards in the 17th minute. In the 23rd minute, defender Kokhan Saha of Army Boys scored a self goal while trying to clear the ball. After break, Ranjan Lakra consolidated the lead further in the 38th minute. For Army Boys, Gopal Saha reduced the margin in the 46th minute.

In the second match, Golden Valley Public School (Haryana) defeated Andhra Pradesh Sports School 5-1. Bhagwan Das scored the first goal in the 13th minute before adding another one to his tally in the 47th minute. Manoj netted the second goal for Golden Valley in the 27th minute while Karambir scored two in the 43rd and 53rd minutes. For AP School, S. Kasturhiah reduced the margin in the 30th minute.

Tomorrow, in sub-junior group, Govt HS & MP School (Kokrajhar, Assam) play Sukhanagar Vidyaniketan (Salt lake) while SKKC Adarsh Seva Vidyalaya (Varanasi) meet AFBBS (Delhi).
