Studio manager held for duping Stanchart

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, SEPTEMBER 19: An employee of a recording studio was arrested today for supplying forged salary sheets of his company to his friends so that they could procure credit cards of Standard Chartered Bank. Police sources say the fraud was discovered when an official of the bank visited the recording studio, CMM Limited, on Saturday to verify the application of one `employee'. The game was finally up for Haroon Bharucha (24), a guest relations officer of the studio, when the official was told that there was no such employee with the company. Following this, the bank official lodged a complaint with the N M Joshi Marg police.

Assistant Police Inspector, Sanjay Patil, says the forged salary sheet attached to the application form of the `employee' had been signed by Bharucha, who had been duping the bank for about a year. He says the bank had issued credit cards to nearly 20 people based on the forged salary sheets provided by Bharcuha.

Being the guest relations officer, Bharucha had helped several topexecutives of his own company secure credit cards and was thus equipped with the requisite information. Accordingly, he had helped several of his friends, who he claimed were employees of his firm, get credit cards based on forged salary sheets.

When the bank would telephone the company for verification, Bharucha made sure he would answer the phone himself and pretend to be the applicant, Patil says. Police are now trying to ascertain whether the credit cards have been misused.
