Rohida-associate Ambrose sent to judicial custody

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Sept 19: Raju Rohida's associate, Ambrose Pawar, who was brought here on a court transfer warrant for interrogations in Sotta case and two other cases pertaining to assault on the life of city builder Kanti Kapchi in 1993, was sent to judicial custody on Saturday.

According to sources, Pawar had divulged some vital clues regarding those persons who had accompanied Rohida on his mission to eliminate Shailesh Mehta `Sotta' on May 9. But the information is being kept a secret by top police officials who feel divulging the information could alert the accused and thus delay their arrest.

Though no concrete evidence was found during the course of Pawar's interrogations regarding assault on Sotta, he reportedly told the police that he had accompanied Rohida when he came to Vadodara on August 13.

The notorious underworld gangster Pawar, who is suffering from serious respiratory trouble caused by bullet injuries he sustained during police encounter in Thane on August 18, also admitted of his complicity in two attempts on the life of Kapchi in 1993. Incidentally, the Auguat 18 encounter with the police also proved to be fatal for Raju Rohida.

Though all the six accused in the two cases were arrested and later on acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence, Pawar had been absconding. A fresh chargesheet would now be filed against Ambrose Pawar and the case against him will be revived, the police said.
