Poll panic in UP; BJP pulls up socks
Signals from the ground and the exit polls -- which indicated a slide in the Bharatiya Janata Party's electoral performance in Uttar Pradesh -- has left the party scurrying for a new strategy in the state.The BJP high command has organised a massive mobilisation of cadres after the results of exit polls -- conducted by various agencies including party loyalist Jain TV -- for the 30 Lok Sabha constituencies which went to polls in the first phase pointed to a fall in its seat tally.
Governor puts pressure on CM
In a move aimed at putting pressure on the RJD government in Bihar, the Governor, Justice B. M. Lal today recommended removal of officials of ``dubious and doubtful character'' whose conduct during yesterday's Lok Sabha elections ``left much to be desired.''
An ``anguished'' Governor has written a letter to the Union Home Ministry with a copy to the Election Commission seeking removal of police and administrative officials of ``dubious and doubtful character''. The Governor said he had repeatedly apprised Bihar Chief Secretary and state CEO of his ``serious concerns'' about holding of free and fair elections in the state.
