PUNE, SEPT 20: The Manchar police have arrested six election officers along with the police patil of Eklahre village in Ghodegaon taluka after two ballot papers were found in the drawer of a table used at a polling station.Among those arrested were the officer in-charge of the polling centre at Eklahre Gajanan Ramji Munde, election officials Arvind Bhikaji Bhor, K S Bhondve, Anjana Mahadeo Repale, Kundalik Muktaji Pansare, Haribhau Genuji Gaikar and Eklahre's police patil Raghuji Jijaba Pokharkar.
District returning officer Vijay Kumar Gautam, who confirmed the reports here today, said he has already recommended the suspension of the election officials concerned for negligence. The incident came to light when the tahsildar of Ghodegaon, Subhash Raghunath Kulkarni, lodged a first information report (FIR) against the election officials and the police patil under the People's Representation Act of 1951 on Sunday afternoon.
Police said Munde and his colleagues were posted at the polling centre number 92 at Eklahre village. They allegedly issued the ballot papers. However, they failed to ensure that the ballot papers were deposited in the ballot boxes after the voters exercised their franchise. A peon working with the Eklahre Grampanchayat office had found the two ballot papers, which had already been used to cast votes, in the drawer of a table which was used at the polling centre on September 16.
