Madan Lal may replace Wadekar

AGENCIES
JAIPUR, SEPT 20: If the present selection committee chairman, Ajit Wadekar loses his position in the annual general body meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Madan Lal will replace him, Board sources said here today. The sources, on conditions of anonymity, said that former the India all-rounder's name for the chairman's post was `confirmed' in case Wadekar is removed.

It has been reliably learnt that Wadekar, who has lost the confidence of fellow selectors, appears to have lost his position further following the announcement of candidature of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi for the post of president of BCCI.

Behind the scenes manoeuvres in the richest sports body of the country are expected to come into the open in what is expected to be a raucous meeting to be held here from tomorrow.

Election of new office-bearers, changes in the selection committee, physical trainer for the Indian team and naming of the National coach are some of the main points on the agenda. But, a looming contest between favourite AC Muthiah and Manohar Joshi is expected to spotlight the tug-of-war between the dominant group led by ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya and the rival group spearheaded by former board chief IS Bindra.
